Archdiocese of Chicago releases iPad version of popular architectural guide
The Archdiocese of Chicago has just released a new iPad version of "A Journey of Faith," a 2006 book which catalogs Chicago-area parishes and their historical and architectural importance.
With over 1,000 beautiful photographs of church exteriors, interiors and treasured artifacts, the Archdiocese’s new iPad application places church history at your fingertips. Each parish includes a historical account of the church, an architectural profile, information on patron saints and more, as well as full-color photography.
Those with an interest in visiting local churches will enjoy the app’s use of geolocation technology. After identifying the location of the user, an interactive map identifies and maps nearby churches.
The greatest challenge in developing the app was efficient management of the large number of images and extensive historical information. The app is designed to host all of the related files on the iPad itself. This speeds load times and ensures that users can best enjoy the app whether they’re on a walking tour of the city or at home, without the need for a WiFi connection.
